Well said!
My wife and I run a performing arts academy in New England in the U.S. COVID generated distance learning is a huge challenge in our business but we dutifully followed the crowd and fit up our studios for Zoom to be able to dynamically support in-person and remote attendance. Definitely a square peg in a round hole when you're talking about things like dance and theatre.
Upon experimentation we've realized that the remote experience has to become more like a live broadcast than simply having a static wide angle view of the studio with bad sound. We are moving to multi-camera streaming with technical assistants who can manage both the far-end experience for remote students and do camera switching so those remote are better able to see what's most important. It's a work in progress to be sure.
Even pre-Covid, conventional education where hundreds or thousands congregate in a central campus was quickly becoming unsustainable. We must all work to find more effective and efficient ways to support lifelong iterative education and training. The world is simply moving too fast to rely on the old ways.
