The very real consequences of globalization and technology-driven socioeconomic change are what's driving the revolt of the disenfranchised MAGA movement. Trump is a symptom not the disease. Labeling the “lower classes” concerns as “imaginary” only serves to fertilize the ground for growth of more conflict.. Exactly the result society cannot survive.

We cannot prevent the decline of democracy by ignoring the concerns and beliefs of those we disagree with.

Democracy dies when respectful, principled debate disappears. If we can stop labeling those who we disagree with as some combination of evil and stupid, we might have a chance to regain balance and avoid civil war.
