The fly in the ointment of this discussion is that employment in the entertainment industry is inherently unfair. The average unemployment rate for professional actors is roughly 85% and the ease of “breaking in” is directly related to access to wealth and legacy connections. If you have neither, you prey for luck to intervene and bridge the gap.

Also, how do we know when we’ve found the magic formula that results in the “right” allocation of straights and LGBTQ individuals. There are so many variables. Should a role written as a gay male Republican be played only by a gay male Republican?

Trying to achieve “fairness” in this industry is an impossible task. The best that can be done is to try to increase the number of projects thus increasing the number of people being employed. That will result in growth for everyone no matter how they identify.
