Critiquing the beliefs or behaviour of individuals is forbidden. But doing so at a higher level of abstraction by "targeting" a group of which the individual is a member is okay?

It seems that society is at odds with itself.

If we are only able to "target" abstract groups but can't engage in creative discourse at an individual level, by definition, we have a mismatch in power. When debate happens between an individual and a group, any critique can be labelled as being grounded in prejudice against that group.

This seems lik a recipe for... oh yes.... the mess we seem to be in right now!
