In order to have any positive impact on the relationship between student debt, enrollment, declining return on investment, rising tuition etc. we must expand the discussion to include education and training outside of the institutions of "higher learning". If higher learning caters only to those careers that remain vibrant in our uber-technical, hyper connected world we have no need for the vast majority of colleges and universities trying so desperately to remain relevant by embracing STEM and cutting Liberal Arts majors en masse.

Better, perhaps, to speak of the millions of workers who are being replaced by automation and Artificial Intelligence solutions. Also, perhaps, begin to rethink a society that measures the value of human labor only by the paycheck it can generate and the profit it can earn for the owners of capital.

Unless we can think of a way for all workers to feel like they are valued by society, not just those who have a college degree, we are fighting a losing battle.

Otherwise we will find ourselves in a world filled with robots and no art, theater, fine craftsmanship and great stories created by human hands and minds.

There is great value in that work and we have to find a way to support it or lose the heart of humanity.
