I’m a retired boomer with Millenials living at home. In fact, we’re looking at adding on an in-law apartment to our traditional home so my wife and I can move into that and my middle son and his wife can take over our house and begin a family of their own.

The biggest mistake my generation (and thus far, those that followed) have made is in not realizing the fundamental shifts driven by technology over the past 50 years and how disruptive that was going to be. The real purchasing power of the middle class is eroding at the same time that many categories of work are being replaced by AI, robotics, etc. This is the overarching shift in effect.

People imagine the future as an extension of the past in a linear fashion. Technology is driving exponential change. It’s no surprise that there’s a huge disconnect. The solution is to recognise the changing economic fundamentals and act accordingly. We all have a role to play in making a change that will result in a more satisfying future for youth.
