I'd agree tha automation hasn't happened that fast so far. The difference is we're reaching the point of the hockey stick curve where change is happening much faster than it was. As Ray Kurtzweil famously said (I paraphrase), the 21st century will feel like 20,000 years of changes happening in 100 years.
