I doubt that passengers abandoning the Titanic for life boats could have been convinced to stay by an offer of money or the promise of better listening by the Captain about how inconvenient the iceburg was.
The conventional model of educaton is dead. It's demise caused by the combined effect of decades of cost increases well beyond inflation and the exponential drop in the cost to access knowledge driven by advances in technology.
Companies are driven to decrease cost and increase revenue in search of profit. For example, the recent news articles about organizations deciding to build their own housing in order to solve unparalleled housing affordability problems is similar in motivation to Google offering certificate programs for $49.
If educators would stop trying to conserve an outdated model they could have a positive impact on what is emerging. Otherwise they will look more and more like a fired Pony Express rider staring up at the transcontinental telegraph poles.
