My dear departed Mother used to say people who wanted simple answers to complex problems got more of both for their trouble.
It seems to me that the housing crisis is just one character in this puppet show. Everywhere you look there are supply/demand problems that are pulling the rug out from under what used to be the middle class. Ultimately, my guess is we’ll discover the overarching cause of them all is technology shifting the cost of production from human to machine labor. The result, an accelerating increase in passive income going to those who can afford to invest in the next Nvidia or build their next 4 million dollar home at $500 / sq ft.
Eventually, when AI and machine labor have displaced a critical mass of workers there’s going to be a revolution. That is unless the political and elite class start looking beyond their own noses.
