A defensible position in the past perhaps.

But, as human labour becomes less and less necessary as an input for the production of goods and services, capitalism cannot survive as is.

Substitution of human labour by technology is an inevitable result of capitalism's inherent bias toward cost reduction and profit maximization. There's nothing sacred about using humans.

The problem is that unless we incorporate this contemporary shift into socioeconomic and political policy we are heading toward social collapse as technology driven income inequality reaches critical mass.

Unless capitalists stop ignoring this dynamic and begin crafting useful solutions, I fear they will be handing socialists power as middle and lower class earnings rapidly erode and jobs evaporate.

Adam Smith's "invisible hand" can't do any good if it's been chopped off.
